The Punjab government has banned Aitkaaf in mosques amid rising coronavirus cases in the province, the Punjab Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department announced Saturday.
Aitkaaf is a period of retreat in a mosque for a certain
number of days in accordance with a Muslim’s own wish. It is mostly observed
during the last 10 days of Ramazan.

The Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minorities Affair Department has failed completely to utilize its Rs370.20 million funds in the first 10 months of this fiscal year in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
Official sources told The Express Tribune that out of the Rs370 million allocated funds around Rs350 million were released by the Finance Department but the Religious Affairs Department only managed to utilize Rs110.93 million funds.
“It is interesting to note that this year Rs160.43 million were allocated for religious affairs in the K-P but the expenditures stand at Rs90.14 million despite the fact that the Finance Department has released Rs170.50 million,” said the official, adding that like all other departments and ministries the Religious and Minorities Affair Department fa

The Sindh home department issued a new notification on Tuesday with a partial modification, extending the Covid-19 lockdown till May 16.
The notification reads, “In continuation and partial modification of this department’s order of even number dated March 31, 2021, and in pursuance of the decisions at the NCOC forum communicated vide letters, the Government of Sindh, in exercise of the powers under Section 3 (1) of Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014 (The Sindh Act VIII of 2015), is pleased to re-direct as under with immediate effect and till 16th May, 2021, unless changed or amended earlier.”
It says there will be broader lockdowns in areas having more than eight per cent positivity rate with stringent enforcement protocols based on risk assessment, and no mobility will be allowed except in emergency by commissioners and deputy commissioners under the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014.
