ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood on Wednesday paid tribute to madressahs, saying that the government had ended the gulf between the state and madressahs.
The minister was speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad where he said that the government s aim was to support education as much as possible.
Highlighting the importance of madressahs, he said that the government has decided to take them along through various reforms. Madressahs give education to children and don t seek even a penny from the government, he said. We ended the void between the state and madressahs.
The Muslim World League (MWL) has honored the children who won the annual competition for Qur’an memorization in Pakistan, and offered them prizes and cash awards.
It came during an event organized by the MWL’s regional office in Islamabad on Saturday, sponsored by the president of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi.
The event was attended by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri, and MWL Assistant Secretary-General Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Zeid, Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf Saeed Al-Malki, and MWL Regional Director Saad Al-Harthi.
Alvi congratulated the winners and expressed his gratitude for the MWL’s efforts in various areas, including its support for the Holy Qur’an memorization competition.

KARAK: The police on Thursday arrested 31 people, including a local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), for attacking and burning the shrine of a Hindu saint in Teri area of Karak district the previous day.
Enraged protesters had attacked and set on fire the Samadhi (shrine) of Shri Paramhans Jee Maharaj on Wednesday as they objected to its expansion.
The police sources said Rehmat Salam Khattak, a leader of Maulana Fazlur Rehman-headed JUI-F, was arrested by the police from his house in Chokara area of Takht-i-Nusrati Tehsil as he had allegedly participated in a meeting before the attack on the shrine. Khattak had joined the JUI-F after quitting the PML-N and unsuccessfully contesting election on its ticket.

Police arrested 14 people in overnight raids after a Hindu shrine was set on fire and severely damaged by a mob led by supporters of a cleric in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa s Karak district, officials said on Thursday.
The temple’s destruction on Wednesday drew condemnation from human rights activists and the minority Hindu community.
Local police said they detained at least 14 people in overnight raids and more raids were underway to arrest individuals who participated or provoked the mob to demolish the shrine.
The attack happened after members of the Hindu community received permission from local authorities to renovate the building. According to witnesses, the mob was led by a local cleric and supporters of a religious political party.
