Island Police: Police extinguish prohibited open flame at housing unit Southwest Harbor  Police received six accidental 911 calls through the week, including a pocket dial on April 27 around 6 p.m. When police called the phone back, its owner was on the golf course with no emergency.  Around 10:15 a.m. on April 28, police received a report of a truck driving through town spilling some type of fuel. When an officer found the vehicle, it was determined that less than 5 gallons of diesel fuel had leaked out. According to the report, this did not require any further emergency response.   Police were asked to escort a large boat from Mountain View Road to the Hinckley Yachts boatyard on Shore Road around noon on April 29. An escort was provided.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Log Week of April 22 Young hiker found safe ELLSWORTH — A 12-year-old girl whose mother called police Monday after the daughter was late returning from a hike was located safely by a family member. Shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, a Sullivan woman reported that her daughter had not come home from a hike. Deputies responded to the scene and were assisted by the Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service. Sullivan Fire and Rescue crews also responded to assist in the search. The girl’s uncle had gone to look for her on the trail system she typically walks on. He found her not long after law enforcement arrived on scene.

Island Police: COVID-weary vandals take frustration out on school property  Southwest Harbor  A resident called police on April 6 around 11:30 a.m. to report harassment and was given a statement form to fill out regarding the incident.  An injured or sick raccoon was reported to police around 4:45 p.m. on April 6. After capture and an investigation, the animal control officer determined the raccoon had likely left its den and was feeling groggy due to semi-hibernation. The raccoon was returned to the wild.  No one was injured in an accident involving two cars at the intersection of Main Street and Seal Cove Road around 4:30 p.m. on April 8. A 2020 Chevrolet Trax was waiting to turn onto Main Street at the intersection when it was hit from behind by a 2004 Hyundai Elantra driven by Jacob Peabody, 18, from Southwest Harbor. Thawing frozen pipes sparks Lamoine fire LAMOINE A fire broke out at a home on the Shore Road Monday when residents attempted to thaw freezing pipes and started a fire inside the walls. The source of the fire was located behind a circuit breaker box.  “Something in that process got too hot and ignited the structure,” said Deputy Fire Chief Stu Marckoon.  Damage was limited as the residents “did the right thing. They got out of the house, they called 911 quickly,” Marckoon said.  The call came in at 12:52 p.m. The Trenton, Hancock and Ellsworth fire departments also responded. The Bar Harbor Fire Department was on standby for Trenton, Sorrento/Sullivan was on standby for Hancock and Orland was on standby for Ellsworth.
