B.C. has extended its state of emergency through to May 25th.  This gives police and officials extra power to enforce COVID safety measures, like doling out big fines to organizers and hosts of large parties and events, and smaller ones to people who flout provincial health orders. One example of that is $230 tickets to anyone who refuses to wear a mask in public indoor spaces.

The state of emergency is extended through the end of the day on May 11, to allow staff to take the necessary actions to keep British Columbians safe and manage immediate concerns and COVID-19 outbreaks. “With over 1.5 million British Columbians already vaccinated and tens of thousands more joining them each day, the end of this pandemic is in sight.
