In order to establish the identity of the dead to hand over unclaimed bodies to legal heirs, a Madurai-based advocate has filed a public interest litigation petition before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking a direction for use of Aadhaar information and fingerprints in this regard.
In his petition, advocate S. Muthukumar said he was involved in various social activities that included cremation of unclaimed dead bodies. The Police Department was often finding it difficult to establish the identity of the deceased. The legal heirs too could not claim the dead bodies and faced hurdles in claiming insurance, he said. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has asked the State government to come out with a positive response to the effective implementation of a government order (G.O.), issued a decade ago, with regard to ensuring accountability from every government servant at every stage and level, as recommended by the Administrative Reforms Committee.
A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and B. Pugalendhi observed that the committee, under the chairmanship of former Madras High Court judge A.K. Rajan, had made certain recommendations to ensure a corruption-free and transparent administration.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court was on Friday informed by the State government that the land for establishing the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Thoppur in Madurai district had already been handed over to the Centre. It was confirmed by the Centre at the hearing of a public interest litigation petition that sought to expedite the construction.
Additional Advocate-General K. Chellapandian said the foundation was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 27, 2019. Then, a proposal was sent to “enter” the 200 acres identified for the project. Further, 22.49 acres of additional land was identified.

AAA The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has granted bail with conditions to the main accused in a case pertaining to fabrication of appointment orders for the post of Junior Assistant in various schools in Ramanathapuram district.
Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan granted bail to the main accused in the case, Kannan, and directed him to deposit a sum of ₹10 lakh and other sureties to the satisfaction of the Judicial Magistrate, Ramanathapuram. It was said that Kannan who was working as a Superintendent in the office of the Chief Educational Officer and five others connived. The accused in the case received ₹20 lakh and issued fabricated appointment orders.
