The pet food being recalled was distributed nationally to online distributors and retail stores. There have been reports of illnesses and deaths in dogs associated with the below listed lots of Sportmix High Energy. No cat or human illnesses have been reported. If your pet shows signs of aflatoxin poisoning including sluggishness, loss of appetite, vomiting jaundice (yellowish tint to the eyes, gums, or skin due to liver damage), and/or diarrhea, contact a veterinarian immediately. Provide a full diet history to your veterinarian. It may be helpful to take a picture of the pet food label, including the lot number.

Dry dog and cat food recalled after 28 dogs die December 31, 2020 12/31/2020 5:58 pm (WWJ) Midwestern Pet Foods, Inc. is recalling some dry pet food linked to the deaths of 28 dogs. The FDA says multiple samples of Sportmix pet food products from the Indiana-based company were found to contain very high levels of aflatoxin, which is produced by mold and can cause illness and death. Pets poisoned by aflatoxin poisoning may have symptoms such as sluggishness, loss of appetite, vomiting, jaundice and diarrhea. In some cases, pets may suffer liver damage but not show any symptoms. The affected products include Sportmix Original cat food.
