Manteca Unified teachers could get rewarded for perfect attendance.
It is part of a tentative agreement the Manteca Unified School Board was expected to approve Tuesday night with the Manteca Educators’ Association regarding reopeners to a master agreement that was adopted on July 1,2020 and runs through June 30,2023.
A one-year pilot program for a perfect attendance bonus of $300 was in place last school year when the pandemic hit in mid-March. The district paid the bonuses based on attendance at that point.
The San Joaquin Office of Education is holding several days of vaccination clinics to administer more than 11,000 first doses to public, private and charter school employees from around the county. As educators, it is our goal for all classrooms to be open to in-person instruction. Vaccination of school employees removes a barrier and brings us closer to that goal, said Jane Steinkamp, SJCOE assistant superintendent of Educational Services and chairwoman of the SJCOE Vaccination Distribution Task Force. It s not the only step, but it’s a significant step. No matter where a school is in its process of resuming or increasing in-person instruction, the vaccination of school employees can help that process move forward.

Manteca Unified is planning a summer session in a bid to help students that have experienced learning loss due to distance learning.
Even though Manteca Unified is one of the few districts among California’s to return the bulk of its students to in person learning, there were still more than four months between two school years that large numbers of students struggled with remote learning via Internet classes.
Community Outreach Coordinator Victoria Brunn indicated details are still being worked out.
