The pandemic has forced employers, employees and procedures to rapidly move online. These operational adjustments left questions around areas as diverse as employee wellbeing, productivity and training – questions which many are now seeking to answer as businesses look to move into a new way of working. Kate Palmer is HR Advice and Consultancy Director at Peninsula, a business services company based in Manchester. Palmer worked in a traditional office before the pandemic which didn’t accommodate remote working, but says they will be incorporating it from here on in.

Markle told Oprah Winfrey in a CBS interview that aired on Sunday that she didn t want to be alive anymore when she was a member of the royal family, and confirmed that she had in the past considered ending her life. Her comments drew fresh attention to the issue of suicide, which is a leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for around one death every 11 minutes in 2019 according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the U.K., where Markle was based at her time of crisis, official figures show almost 6,000 people died by suicide in 2019 alone.

Mental health and SMEs: supporting businesses during lockdown

Yvonne Gale, CEO of the organisation, tells us what it’s been like working with smaller companies during the third national lockdown. “The mental health of small business owners has taken quite a battering, and it s clear that resilience is a key issue,” says Yvonne Gale, chief executive officer of NEL Fund Managers Limited, which provides funding for entrepreneurial businesses in the North East of England who are looking to grow and develop. “Amid this third national lockdown, it’s about whether or not small business owners can pick themselves back up again and keep going.”
