The Senate on Monday passed “The Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Bill, 2021” to define ‘torture, custody and custodial deaths’ inflicted by any person, police or law enforcement agency, under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
The bill, moved by Senator Sherry Rehman, was also supported by Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari.
Leader of the House Dr Shahzad Waseem said that the government always supports the opposition in legislation in favour of public.
According to the statement of objects and reason of the bill, custodial torture and deaths is a worldwide phenomenon inflicted upon individuals irrespective of gender, religion, financial status, or health conditions. The statement said this type of violation of human rights was alarming in Pakistan where brutal atrocities were perpetuated by police and other law enforcement agencies. ISLAMABAD: The unabated onslaught against the judiciary on different social media platforms following the Supreme Court’s verdict in Justice Qazi Faez Isa case has surprised legal luminaries who have described the tendency as most unfortunate which has the potential to harm the very institution of judiciary.
The apex court had through a majority judgement on April 26 overturned its June 19, 2020 order that required verification and subsequent findings by the tax authorities of three foreign properties in the name of the wife and children of Justice Faez Isa.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari categorically told Indians that Pakistan is dealing with its internal law and order issues.
In an angry tweet, Mazari accused Indians of fanning anarchy in Pakistan by sharing fake news, pictures and hashtags.
Her tweet comes a day after Punjab Police and protestors of a banned religious organisation clashed in Lahore at the Yateem Khana Chowk. Indians fanning fake pics, fake news items, hashtags ag Pak state & govt - & others using Bot from India for rapid auto-generated tweets!
