KP govt decides to set up more campuses for street children

PESHAWAR: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided for the establishment of four more campuses of the model institute for street children in the province.
Saeed Ahmad, Director Zamong Kor (our house) a model child protection institute for street children at Peshawar said that the decision has been taken due to successful operation of the project. The new campuses would be established in Swat, Abbottabad and D. I. Khan while a girls’ specific institute in Peshawar. Similarly, he said that the establishment of another campus is under consideration in Bannu. Work on Swat Campus has begun and initially it would start operation in a rented building from next month.

Salman Sikandar and his friends were blindfolded while being shifted to three police stations in the Pakistani city of Lahore.
“We were sleeping when policemen banged on the door and forcefully entered. They slapped a student who asked about the arrest warrant. We were handcuffed and confused,” Sikandar, 23, told UCA News.
“They collected our smartphones in a black plastic bag. Only the tap water of dirty toilets was available in lockups. The trauma has changed me forever. I only witnessed injustice in police captivity.”

KARACHI: A veteran journalist and op-ed editor of The News, Zainul Abedin, passed away at a private hospital in Karachi on Saturday morning. He was 49.
Abedin had earlier spent a week at the hospital in North Nazimabad where he was treated for some health problems, which were compounded by the novel coronavirus he was diagnosed with.
He was buried at Sakhi Hasan graveyard. His close friends performed the last rites, as people were advised against attending his funeral and burial due to Covid-19 concerns.
Abedin joined the op-ed section of The News as assistant editor in 2006. He served as op-ed editor of the newspaper for over a decade. He had started his journalist career as a sub-editor at The News and also worked at Dawn and Daily Times newspapers in various capacities.
Pakistan Rights Commission slams attempt to foil Karima Baloch’s funeral

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has slammed the authorities over the handling of Baloch activist Karima Baloch’s funeral and termed their attempt to foil the ceremony for the activist as “disgraceful”.
Taking to Twitter, HRCP said: “The manner in which the authorities have attempted to foil the funeral arrangements for activist Karima Baloch is disgraceful and, regrettably, mirrors the state’s attitude towards Balochistan and its people”.
This comes after members of the opposition in the Pakistan Senate had expressed concern over the “disrespect” with which the body of Karima Baloch was treated before it was laid to rest in her hometown Tump, Balochistan.
