KUALA LUMPUR: The proposed Nenggiri Hydroelectric Dam Project, to be sited 30 km away from Gua Musang in Kelantan, will add another 300 MW to Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) total installed hydro capacity of 2,536.1 MW, once approved by the Energy Commission.
It will not only enhance the grid system’s reliability and security to serve 6.96 million registered users of electricity in the peninsula but will also play a multifold role for the country and the state of Kelantan.
Over the last 72 years, TNB has only operated three hydro-electric dam schemes in the country, namely the Sungai Perak Hydro Scheme (1,249.1MW), Cameron Highlands Scheme (622MW) and Kenyir Scheme (665MW).

PETALING JAYA: After a short respite, pressure on the Malaysian media to toe the line has risen again.
The increasing threat of legal action with draconian laws has reduced mainstream media to a mere government mouthpiece, according to stakeholders.
The National Union of Journalists cited the recent case of Malaysiakini being taken to court over a comment one of its readers left on its website as a sign of the deterioration of media freedom.

theSun that such action was taken to serve as a warning to media personnel and companies not to cross the line.

THE Human Rights Commission of Malaysia wants the government to renew Convent Bukit Nanas’ land lease, so that the operations of the school remain status quo.
“As long as it is in compliance with educational and other legal requirements, no institution should be dictated on how it may conduct its operations,” Suhakam said in a statement today.
