While the difficulties of the pandemic remain front and centre for many in our communities, I hope you and your loved ones have been able to connect in a safe manner, and enjoy the first days of spring. While we still have a long road ahead of us before we are clear of the pandemic, there continues to be hope with the rollout of vaccines and therapeutic treatments, and I again want to thank our tireless healthcare workers for their tremendous efforts throughout this ordeal.
This session of Parliament has been busy for the Status of Women Committee (FEWO), of which I am the chair. First, I was able to help declare Feb. 22 as Human Trafficking Awareness Day, to shine a light on the serious issue of human trafficking and modern-day slavery in Canada and abroad. It is important we advocate on behalf of victims and survivors to ensure human rights are protected and upheld for women and all marginalized communities across our country.
