Nadya Korytnikova February 02, 2021 12:42PM By Nadya Korytnikova, Record-Journal staff BERLIN — A member of the town’s Police Commission will give a presentation for parents on human trafficking this week.   “It’s happening in every county across the state, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, education level - we are seeing it in every community,” said Police Commissioner Melissa Urrunaga during a Town Council meeting last week. Urrunaga also serves as a social worker at the Department of Children and Families, and a liaison at the Human Anti-trafficking Response Team for the New Britain Area.

Acting US Attorney speaks out again human trafficking during awareness month Eastern District of Texas January is Human Trafficking Awareness month.  Each year, law enforcement and service providers reaffirm their commitment to eradicating human trafficking in all forms.  Acting United States Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei is issuing a number of messages to educate the public about human trafficking and, importantly, to dispel many myths and misconceptions about trafficking.  “Human trafficking is modern-day slavery,” said Acting United States Attorney Ganjei.  “We proudly partner with federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as the remarkable men and women who work with victims, to bring traffickers to justice.  Those who exploit other human beings for personal gain have no safe harbor in the Eastern District of Texas.”

Share Local Volunteers Sought For Not In My City Event The Hill County Boys & Girls Club will host the Heart of Texas Human Trafficking Coalition s Not In My City event Saturday, January 30. January is Human Trafficking Awareness month, and volunteers are invited to participate during the local event. The effort will also qualify as community service hours. Volunteers will meet at First United Methodist Church, located at 315 East Elm Street in Hillsboro, at 1 p.m. After a brief training, they will pair up in small groups and visit businesses to distribute posters.
