Housing subsidy for middle income earners now available The government has urged citizens who earn between R3501 and R22 000 a month to apply for a housing subsidy to buy their first property. Minister of Human Settlements Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu, has called on citizens who want to buy a home or property for the first time to apply for a government housing subsidy. The government’s Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP) aims to encourage home ownership among people who earn between R3501 and R22 000 a month. The applicants must have applied for a home loan with an accredited banking institution or a non-bank financial institution.

The Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA), South African Women in Construction (SAWIC) and Built Environment (BE) signed the agreement on Monday during International Women’s Day. The agreement aims to advance the transformation agenda within the social housing sector, through empowering women to lead and manage accredited Social Housing Institutions (SHIs) and Other Delivery Agents (ODAs). SHRA is one of the Department of Human Settlements entities, responsible for subsidised rental stock for low to medium income groups earning between R1 500 and R15 000.
