HHS to Speed up Pharmacy Vaccination Program By Ralph Ellis
Jan. 7, 2021 In an effort to speed up lagging coronavirus vaccinations, the Trump Administration will allow employees in pharmacy chains to vaccinate high-risk groups and eventually the general public at the pharmacies, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said Wednesday. This partnership allows states to allocate vaccines directly to these partners, and these partners can then administer vaccines to particular groups like those over a certain age or in certain occupations, and eventually to the general public, Azar said at a news conference, according to The Hill.
Almost all vaccinations have been given at hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care facilities since the vaccination program began Dec. 14. Though more than 17.2 million vaccine doses have been distributed to the states, only about 5.3 million have been administered, the CDC says.
