Moderna vaccine approved in the US, Donald Trump announces
US poised to be first country to approve new jab which was 95pc effective in trials and does not require ultra-cold storage Moderna vaccine overwhelmingly approved. Distribution to start immediately, he wrote on Twitter.
This follows a recommendation by an expert panel on Thursday to grant emergency use approval for Moderna s Covid-19 vaccine in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration is expected to issue formal approval Friday.
A vaccine made by Pfizer-BioNTech was approved last week.
US officials have said they expect to have 40 million doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines by the end of the year – enough to inoculate 20 million people. Both vaccines were about 95 per cent effective at preventing illness in clinical trials with no serious safety issues.
