GLENVILLE, N.Y. - The Northeastâs first whopper snowstorm of the season buried parts of upstate New York under more than 3 feet (1 metre) of snow, broke records in cities and towns across the region, and left plow drivers struggling to clear the roads as snow piled up at more than 4 inches (10 centimetres) per hour.
âIt was a very difficult, fast storm and it dropped an unbelievable amount of snow,â Tom Coppola, highway superintendent in charge of maintaining 100 miles (160 kilometres) of roads in the Albany suburb of Glenville, said Thursday. âIt s to the point where we re having trouble pushing it with our plows.â

California adds more than 40,000 Covid-19 cases in one day as Americans await vaccine rollout
Help is on the way. But for many Americans, it may not be soon enough.
In Pompano Beach, an 88-year-old resident at a long-term facility was administered the vaccine as Florida became one of the first states to vaccinate the most vulnerable residents.
Across the country, frontline health care workers have also gotten shots in televised events to highlight the safety of the vaccine.
About 20 million people are expected to get their first shots by the end of this month. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said officials will soon provide a dashboard with the number of Covid-19 vaccinations completed, “so we know exactly how we’re doing on getting shots in arms.”
I believe by the end of February, the end of March, of course, depending on the decisions by our governors, but I believe we ll have enough supply out there to be reaching out to the general public for administration at your CVS, Walgreens, Kroegers by the end of February into March, Azar said.
Azar added, however, that the timeline for vaccinating the general public could be even earlier if the approval of the AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccine comes soon. The nation s leading official for infectious diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, predicted that the Covid-19 vaccines should be widely available to most Americans by April.
