Judge: Federal review inadequate before funding state predator study

A federal judge has ruled that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service failed to follow the law in actions leading to its help in funding a state study that involves culling predator numbers in the Piceance Basin and Arkansas River Valley to gauge the impacts on mule deer populations. Senior Judge Marcia Krieger of the U.S. District Court of Colorado ruled that another federal agency’s environmental assessment, which the Fish and Wildlife Service adopted without modification, failed to adequately analyze the effects of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife studies, warranting reversal of the Fish and Wildlife Service’s funding decision and remand of the matter back to the agency for further consideration.

Maryland Set to Become Fifth State to Ban Cosmetic Animal Testing

Shares The Maryland State Legislature just voted to pass new legislation that would ban the testing of cosmetics on animals across the state. The new legislation, called Prohibition on Testing Cosmetics on Animals (PTCA), would come into effect on January 1, 2022 and bans both the sale of cosmetics tested on animals and the contracting of entities to test cosmetics that are in development on animals. It also bans animal testing for individual ingredients and third-party manufacturers. PTCA is now headed to Maryland Governor Larry Hogan for signature and if passed, would make Maryland the fifth state to pass a cosmetic animal testing ban.
