Letter: Back big-cat safety bill

Letter: Back big-cat safety bill Our Congressman, John Garamendi, should co-sponsor H.R. 263, the Big Cat Public Safety Act. This piece of legislation would make it illegal for any American to import, export, transport, sell, receive, purchase, breed, or possess lions, tigers, leopards, snow leopards, jaguars, cougars, or any hybrid thereof. In other words, H.R. 263 makes it a federal crime to operate a roadside zoo featuring big cats. The bill also mandates that accredited zoos and sanctuaries maintain a distance of at least 15 feet between big cats and visiting members of the public, unless there is a permanent barrier sufficient to prevent public contact.
