Pet of the Week: Delta

Say howdy to Delta, the Pet of the Week, who’s available through Heartland Small Animal Rescue. Delta is about 1 to 2 years old and is a German shepherd mix. She weighs just under 50 pounds. Delta came to her foster home when she was pregnant and confused. It wasn’t long until she had some very cute puppies, and Delta was a great mom. She is now ready for her forever home. Delta is housetrained and walks great on a leash. She is a sweet and smart dog but needs to learn a few manners, so she’ll need an experienced owner. Delta can be with other dogs as long as they are very mellow, although a home with no dogs would be preferred. Delta has a lot of energy and needs an owner who can keep up with her. If that sounds like you, contact Heartland.

Owner drops off 19 cats at Michigan City shelter I m sorry I have run out of options

MICHIGAN CITY — The first task for employees arriving to work each day at the Michiana Humane Society is to circle the building to see if there are any unexpected animals to deal with. On Sunday morning, that routine survey found 19 cats in four cages sitting outside the Michigan City shelter. On top of one of the cages was a note. “Hello, I’m sorry I’m having to do this but unfortunately I have run out of options,” it reads, in part. “My health is failing. I’m on the verge of losing my home. My family cannot take them, so I’m surrendering them to you where I know they have a fighting chance. Please do not think ill of me, I already hate myself enough and I hope God will forgive me for this because I will never forgive myself.”
