Exuberant doggos pulled their people along downtown Vancouver sidewalks Saturday in a pandemic-adapted version of the annual Walk/Run for the Animals, a fundraiser for the Humane Society for Southwest Washington.

It s a nice weekend for a drive. The Historic Columbia River Highway has reopened. The six mile stretch between Bridal Veil and Ainsworth has been closed since January because of slides. Trails in the area have reopened as well.

Firefighters saved a dog and a trapped colleague while responding to a house fire Thursday night in Vancouver’s Riveridge neighborhood.
Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched at 7:39 p.m. to 12302 S.E. McGillivray Blvd., for a report of a residential structure fire.
The first arriving engine found a home with flames shooting from its roof, according to a fire department news release.

LONGVIEW After more than a year, Shirley is finally home.
Longview residents Chloe Wheeler and Jon-Erik Hegstad were reunited with their beloved shepherd mix Shirley last week with the help of a Clark County nonprofit. They had last seen her in October 2019.
“I’m still kind of in a state of disbelief,” Hegstad said Friday. “We have our dog back.”
