Senator Cory Booker + Representative Rosa DeLauro reintroduced identical bills into the House and Senate to protect slaughterhouse workers by reducing line speeds in the slaughterhouses, according to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Senator Booker originally introduced the bill in July 2020.
The Safe Line Speeds Act acts against a harmful action by the USDA in 2020 that allowed slaughterhouses to increase the speeds of slaughterhouses.

The Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society Legislative Fund have presented the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) with the Henry Spira Humane Corporate Progress Award for championing federal legislation to ensure cosmetics are free from new animal testing and for leading its approximately 600 member cosmetics companies toward a humane future.
PCPC worked closely with animal groups to come up with strong language for the Humane Cosmetics Act, demonstrating that the United States cosmetics industry is ready to move away from the animal testing.

As part of its regulatory freeze to evaluate the previous administration’s action, the Biden administration issued a temporary freeze on a rule dictating allowable poultry slaughter line speed increases. The rule in question allows establishments to increase line speeds from 140 birds per minute up to 175 bpm.
The appropriations bill and accompanying coronavirus relief/stimulus package for fiscal year 2021 now advancing through Congress will bring critical and much-needed support to millions of Americans. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Martha McSally, R-Ariz., and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Reps. Paul Tonko, D-N.Y. and Andy Barr, R-Ky., to address the widespread doping of racehorses and unsafe track conditions that have been key contributing factors in frequent equine fatalities on American racetracks.
