Millersville University to renovate Biemesderfer Stadium with help from $1 5M gift

On the heels of a record-breaking $1.5 million gift, Millersville University is launching a campaign to raise money for a major renovation to its 53-year-old athletic stadium, the university announced Monday. The gift, the largest ever for Millersville’s athletic program, came from Manheim Township native and 1954 Millersville University graduate Lois Morgan. With Morgan’s support, Millersville is more than halfway to its initial $2.5 million goal. Using all private funding, Millersville is embarking on a three-step renovation plan for Biemesderfer Stadium, built in 1968. The university’s football, field hockey, lacrosse, cross country and track and field teams — in total, about 200 athletes — use the stadium. The plan includes overhauling and expanding the locker rooms and athletic training rooms, then installing a video scoreboard and adding a new press box.

Live theater returning to Mount Gretna: Rogers & Hammerstein, Sherlock Holmes, circus, more in summer season

Gretna Theatre has been presenting outdoor summer plays and musicals for 94 years in the open-air Mount Gretna Playhouse, which dates back nearly 130 years. When the theater company had to scrap most of its 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, its executive producer, Lancaster native Brian Kurtas, was determined to make sure the theater would be back this year to continue the nearly centurylong tradition. “In February and March of 2020, we made a commitment that we weren’t going anywhere,” Kurtas says. “We have offered an adaptation of what we would normally be able to serve the community, in terms of both artistic programming and also educational programming.”
