Where to find COVID vaccine slots - Winona Post > Article

Where to find COVID vaccine slots (4/7/2021)   All Wisconsinites 16 and older became eligible for COVID-19 vaccines on Monday. While supplies are limited, there are numerous local vaccination sites where Wisconsin residents have a shot at snagging an appointment. At one of those sites, the Buffalo County Public Health Department’s drive-through clinic in Alma, demand was high, Interim Health Officer Dave Rynders reported. “We’ve filled every slot so far,” he said. By calling or signing up online, citizens can join a waiting list (see details below). From there, it’s first come, first served, he said. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers announced the new eligibility rules last week, encouraging Wisconsinites to seek out vaccination appointments while acknowledging “it won’t all happen at once.” Evers said, “Remember, supply is still limited, so please be patient and be kind to our vaccine providers. Believe me, they want to get you signed up and

Both local health systems haven t seen any influenza cases this year

Both Mayo Clinic and Gundersen Health Systems haven’t had any cases so far this year. Typically, they would’ve seen hundreds of cases by this time. Health experts say the most likely reason is because of the precautions being taken to prevent the spread of COVID, including wearing masks and social distancing. But doctors warn just because there hasn’t been any cases yet, doesn’t mean we won’t still see an outbreak. “I think it will be interesting to see if we see a later flu season this year as we don’t necessarily have the same heard immunity from it going around and that kind of thing that we might’ve seen in previous years around this time of year,” said Dr. Joel Greenya of Mayo Clinic Health System.
