Treetops Resort in Gaylord is working toward energy saving improvements all thanks to a clean energy loan.
The Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy loan, or CPACE loan, will help Treetops get nearly $3 million in upgrades.
Treetops plans to make its buildings more energy efficient with better heating and cooling systems, along with energy saving lights.
In return, the resort will pay back the loan with the extra cash it saves on energy bills.
Treetops says with about 80 buildings on the property there’s a long list of improvements.
“As you can imagine the lighting the heating the cooling, the water controls, in some of these buildings are immense. So this is a large scale project that we’re embarking on, and we’ve already started, some of the work has been done, and it’s going to get real fast and furious in the next three to four months,” said Barry Owens, General Manager.

Use time off to experience the outdoors

If 2020 gave us anything, it was extra time. Many used this time to reconnect with the outdoors.
As we round out the year, and many people are burning through vacation days, consider taking a trip to explore an unknown outdoor destination. Here are five of my favorite places to visit:
Brown County State Park, Nashville
Nicknamed the “Little Smokies” because of the region’s resemblance to the Smoky Mountain National Park, Brown County offers visitors a chance to spread out amongst the hills, hollers and ridgetops many wouldn’t expect to find in southern Indiana. Encompassing nearly 16,000 acres, you can find true solitude in the park’s wilderness. Taking a winter hike along one of the many trails is a great way to experience wildlife and natural scenes without the crowds of summer.

The gift giving season is upon us, and 2020 is a year like no other. Presents take on a whole new meaning when you might not see your loved ones this holiday season. This is the year where a gift of experience might be most welcome, and thankfully, Michigan is ready to deliver.
“Giving the gift of travel, or the present of an amazing Michigan experience, is such a personal gift” said David Lorenz, Vice President of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “This year, it is more important than ever to support our locally owned businesses across the state.”
