Up they go. Flyin’ high. MATTAPOISETT The Mattapoisett Tree Committee raised a flag in recognition of Arbor Day on Friday, May 30. The flag commemorates 10 years of Mattapoisett being a Tree City USA town, so designated by Tree City USA, a foundation that helps towns and cities manage and expand their number of public trees. The flag was briefly flown under the U.S. flag at full mast, before being brought down to half mast in recognition of Selectman John DeCosta’s death on April 28.

Portsmouth celebrates Arbor Day with tree plantings

Staff reports PORTSMOUTH - The city celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, April 30 with a proclamation reading and planting of trees around the city. On Friday morning, City Manager Karen Conard read the Mayor’s Arbor Day Proclamation outside City Hall where a new dawn redwood was planted as a legacy tree by the Parks and Greenery Division and Trees and Public Greenery Committee. The redwood is one of 150 trees being planted around Portsmouth in accordance with budgeted allocations for the urban forest. Immediately following the redwood planting the city tree crew met up with a crew from Northeast Shade Tree of Greenland, which donated a day of labor to the city for its own celebration of Arbor Day.

Norwalk celebrates Arbor Day

For Arbor Day 2021, Eversource and the City planted 10 new trees, in cooperation with Norwalk Public Schools, Norwalk Tree Advisory Committee, Norwalk Tree Alliance, and Oak Hills Park Authority. Eight were planted Friday in Oak Hills Park; Eversource paid for five of the trees while the City paid for three. To meet the Arbor Day Foundation guidelines of “Planting the Right Tree in the Right Place,” three Fastigiate European Hornbeams were planted near the white house at the Oak Hills Park entrance sign, a Redmond American Linden and a Liberty Elm were planted near the Great Lawn area behind the Club House Building, and two Swamp White Oaks plus a Red Maple tree were planted in the park along Fillow Street.
