WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Marathon County’s Diversity Affairs Commission is hopeful that more education and some slight tweaks will allow the “A Community For All” resolution to pass later this spring. During their regular meeting on Wednesday, the Commissioners decided to bring an educational presentation to an upcoming County Board Educational meeting to provide more insight into the goals of the resolution. “The response [we saw] at the Executive Committee meeting was ‘I’ve heard from my constituents that this is offensive so I don’t support it,” said District 16 Supervisor Bill Conway of Schofield. “What I should have heard was ‘I heard from my constituents this is offensive but I told them no, it’s not that, and this is the reason why.”

Mayors Monday: Marathon County Administrator Lance Leonherd

Mayors Monday: Marathon County Administrator Lance Leonherd By Mike Leischner Jan 25, 2021 11:00 AM WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) A recent resolution brought forward by the Marathon County’s Diversity Affairs Commission was not approved by the full board, with many calling the move divisive. The resolution declared that Marathon County is “a community for all,” but not everyone felt that way at the county board level. Some said the resolution lacked focus, others were concerned about legal ramifications. Still others said they received dozens of calls and emails from constituents telling them to vote the measure down. The measure simply declared the County as a place where all are welcome to make a life for themselves, according to County Administrator Lance Leonhard who says the challenge now is how do they communicate the intent of the resolution.
