Dog owner faces homicide charge after deadly mauling

PHOENIX (KTVK, KPHO) A man has been arrested after police said his dogs attacked and killed his neighbor in south Phoenix Tuesday morning. According to Phoenix police, 77-year-old Maria Eliza Sebastian Ruiz was on her front porch on Sixth Street near Broadway Road when four Staffordshire terrier mix dogs attacked her without being provoked. She was taken to the hospital where she died.
“The dogs escaped several times. I’ve called the police on them,” said a neighbor who asked not to be identified. “It’s terrifying. Terrifying.” The neighbor said the dogs have been violent and unruly before, and now, she has to grieve her neighbor’s death. “She was sitting on the porch. She wasn’t even walking. She was sitting on the porch,” the neighbor said.

Phoenix Police officials say a 77-year-old woman is dead following an attack involving four dogs on the morning of July 6 and authorities say the dogs have since been euthanized.
According to a statement, officers were called to the area of 6th Street and Broadway just after 7 a.m. for a woman who was being attacked by dogs.

PHOENIX Maria Eliza Sebastian Ruiz was known as the tiny lady on the block.
She was 77 years old. She lived with her husband of 60 years and one of her five children.
Every morning, after cleaning her house in South Phoenix, she would sit on her front porch to get fresh air.

PHOENIX â Police say a 77-year-old Valley woman has died after being attacked by dogs in Phoenix Tuesday morning.
Officials say just after 7 a.m., officers were called to the area of 6th Street and Broadway Road for reports of a woman who was being attacked by dogs.
When crews arrived on scene, they found Maria Ruiz in critical condition. Police say she was transported to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Investigators learned Ruiz was on her front porch when she was attacked by four Staffordshire Terrier-mix dogs owned by 33-year-old Alejandro Hernandez.
