View Comments It’s becoming increasingly and oh so painfully clear why Arizona, one of the fastest growing states in the nation, may have lost out on picking up another seat in Congress. Two words: Doug Ducey. The state spent just $1.9 million to try to boost participation in the once-a-decade count that is used to apportion House seats and federal funds. Meanwhile, The New York Times reports New York City spent $40 million on advertising, texts and events designed to get people counted. New York still lost a seat, narrowly, but it didn’t lose two. Anyone think we grew by just 12%?

Stars aligning on SR347 solution as Gila River signals cooperation

Photo by Victor Moreno For several years, the rocky relationship between the Gila River Indian Community and the Arizona Department of Transportation hasn’t done much to advance a solution for the woes on State Route 347. But a letter sent to the Arizona Congressional Delegation earlier this month would appear to indicate the relationship is changing – and that is good news for Maricopans, officials said. Joining Eric J. Anderson, executive director of the Maricopa Association of Governments, in in sending the letter was Stephen Roe Lewis, governor of the Gila River community, and John Halikowski, director of the Arizona Department of Transportation.
