Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, broke ground for the construction of a state-of-the art homeless shelter in Falmouth, Trelawny, on July 8.
In his address, Mr. McKenzie reaffirmed Governmentâs commitment to the homeless population, through the continued provision of holistic care and development of appropriate infrastructure to accommodate them.
He announced that an additional eight homeless shelters will be built across the island within the next two years.

Attorney General Marlene Malahoo-Forte
The House of Representatives was forced to take a recess for several minutes Tuesday afternoon after Attorney General Marlene Malahoo-Forte appeared to collapse during the debate on the report on the Sexual Harassment Bill.
Malahoo-Forte, the Member of Parliament for St James West Central, fell near the Speaker’s chair while Opposition MP, Dr Angela Brown-Burke was making her contribution to the debate.
The development forced House Speaker Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert to take a five minute recess.
Several members went over to offer assistance to the attorney general who was reportedly taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies and was undergoing medical checks.
