Rhode Island legislator s legalization bid comes down to the wire

July 20, 2021 Rhode Island is still in the running to become the sixth state to legalize marijuana in 2021. The original proposal was introduced in March and amended last week by the Rhode Island Senate Judiciary Committee, but it’s looking more like a long shot that the work will be done during the current session. There have been previous efforts to accomplish this in the state going back to 2014. With little time remaining in its 2020-2021 legislative session, the Rhode Island Senate approved a bill in late June to legalize the possession, purchase, and cultivation of cannabis for personal use for adults 21 and older.

The Arizona Department of Revenue reported that total number of marijuana sales has nearly doubled since January, when the state legalized the recreational sale of marijuana to anyone at least 21 years of age. Arizona received about $75 million in taxes from both medical and recreational marijuana sales from January to May 2021, according to state data obtained by The Arizona Republic.  Arizona approved the use of medical marijuana in 2010 and officially approved recreational use of the substance last November, joining 18 states, along with Washington, D.C. and Guam, in fully legalizing it.
