Indy Fitness Facility Closes After Several Members Diagnosed With Legionnaires Disease
An Indianapolis fitness facility remains closed after several members were diagnosed with Legionnaires disease.
In an email to members, the Indianapolis Healthplex explained the facility would be closed after a few members were diagnosed with the disease. It s unclear when or where the members were infected by legionella bacteria, the email said. However, those affected were active members of the Indianapolis Healthplex. Because of this, the facility was shut down in an abundance of caution pending confirmation that it is free of Legionella bacteria.
The Indianapolis Healthplex is currently working with the Marion County Public Health Department and local water safety experts to test the facility’s water systems for legionella bacteria.

Marion County Public Health Department Opens New COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic On Eastside
Appointments are now available at the Marion County Public Health Department’s new COVID-19 vaccine clinic on the eastside, at 9503 E. 33rd St.
The health department expects to administer up to 800 doses of the Moderna vaccine per day at the clinic.
“Getting the COVID-19 vaccine, along with continuing to wear a mask, wash our hands, and watch our distance, is how we will end this pandemic,” said Dr. Virginia Caine, director and chief medical officer of the Health Department. “Through efforts such as pop-up vaccine clinics held in neighborhoods across the city, $1 million in grants to uplift community-based initiatives, and the opening of this new clinic to serve the eastside, we are continuing the work to make the COVID-19 accessible to all in our community.”
