A jury found 37-year-old Reginald Smith guilty of three charges, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced Thursday.
Smith has been convicted of attempted murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer for shooting a woman with a rifle on the near eastside on June 15, 2020.
Smith and the victim began to argue when he approached her and shot her with a rifle at close range, a witness told detectives. At the scene, officers found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower back, which left the victim suffering paralysis to her lower extremities for about nine months, according to the Marion County Prosecutor s Office.

INDIANAPOLIS A woman, who authorities said murdered and robbed her next-door neighbor in 2019, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday.
Katrina Griffith was convicted for her role in the October 2019 murder and robbery of her next-door neighbor, Michael Zdenek.
A little after midnight on Oct. 5, 2019, officers were called to a residence in the 700 block of Edgemont Avenue.

As part of a plea deal Diane Goebel was ordered Tuesday to complete 361 days of probation and 48 hours of community service by judge Linda Brown in Marion County Superior Court. She also must pay restitution of more than $2,600 to two victims, and owes court costs of $185.
Goebel was charged with felony criminal recklessness but she was instead sentenced for a class A misdemeanor as part of her plea deal.
