INDIANAPOLIS IMPD homicide detectives arrested a man Wednesday in the death of his nephew.
Darrell Hoagland, 47, was found dead Tuesday morning in the backyard of a vacant property on Carson Avenue, near South Keystone Avenue and East Hanna Avenue. The Marion County Coroner s Office determined Hoagland had been shot to death.
Detectives identified the suspect as his uncle, 52-year-old John Hoagland. Officers arrested him Wednesday and preliminarily charged him with murder. The Marion County Prosecutor s Office will make a final charging decision in the case.

A probationary officer with the Speedway Police Department is facing preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he was arrested while off duty Tuesday on the west side of Indianapolis, according to police.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers arrested Brandon Thompson, 22, at his apartment complex near Lawndale Avenue and Beachway Drive shortly before 2 a.m., Speedway Police said in a news release.
Thompson was off duty at the time of the incident and was driving a personal vehicle. The 22-year-old joined the Speedway Police force in February and is a probationary officer officers do not receive permanent officer status until they ve spent a year on duty, officials said.
