Citing serious threat to public health, prosecutors ask judge to reconsider holding two trials in George Floyd s death Prosecutors asked that all four ex-Minneapolis police officers be tried together in late summer.  January 19, 2021 7:36pm Text size Copy shortlink: Citing an extremely serious threat to public health, prosecutors in the case of four fired Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of George Floyd have asked the judge to reconsider his decision to try Derek Chauvin in March and the other three officers five months later. The motion filed Tuesday afternoon comes less than a week after Judge Peter Cahill s order splitting the trial into two. As of now, Chauvin will be tried in Hennepin County District Court starting March 8; J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao will be tried together starting Aug. 23.

Trimeanna Williams, 39, admitted in Hennepin County District Court to one count of aiding an offender after the fact Thursday in connection with the shooting death of 39-year-old Jennifer Swaggert of Minneapolis. The plea deal calls for Williams to receive a term of nearly 6¼ years, with the first 3½ or so years in prison and the balance on supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 5.
