George: Take protective action

Social Share Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George has advised Barbadians to take preventative measures against adverse respiratory effects likely to be caused by the ash cloud from the Soufriere volcano eruption. In the aftermath of yesterday’s eruption in St Vincent and the Grenadines, he said there were “some potential respiratory and other effects that may occur” and informed Barbadians that there were appropriate preventative measures that could be taken. Speaking during a virtual press conference to update on the state of affairs in light of the eruption, George said: “A lot of the issues surround respiratory issues, usually allergies, so persons who have asthma and persons who have chronic lung disease need to be aware of the situation and need to take protective actions.”

Visitors against using masks, don t come – NationNews Barbados — nationnews com

Social Share Potential visitors to Barbados who are not prepared to wear masks when they come here, have been put on notice they will not be welcome. Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George made this clear yesterday while responding to a question from chief executive officer of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) Rudy Grant about the implications for travel to Barbados by people from Barbados’ source markets where there is opposition to mask-wearing after vaccination. George stressed Barbados’ mask-wearing mandate will not be lifted any time soon. He told BHTA members: “I am very concerned that persons within our source market, particularly the United Kingdom are going against science and burning masks and telling their population that masks offer no first-line protection against the disease. This is not acceptable in Barbados and would not be acceptable in Barbados,” George said. (GC)
