NORMALÂ â Zain Becerra just earned his masterâs degree in chemistry from Illinois State University and started a new job, but he wonât necessarily be sad if the job doesnât last.
âWe all want to be done with COVID and get back to normal life,â said Becerra, during a tour of the facility on the second floor of the Science Lab Building, where he is one of three lab techs.
In the meantime, âIt feels good to be part of this,â said Becerra. âYou want to help people. Thatâs why we entered the field. We want to help the community.â

The restaurant and performance space located at New York City’s Hudson River Park announced Wednesday that it will soon charge customers $50 for a rapid COVID-19 test administered at the door. Effective Tuesday, the test is part of City Winery’s pilot testing program, which will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
In a press release, City Winery said that guests will participate in a mandatory wellness check upon arrival. A certified practitioner will then conduct the test using a shallow nasal swab, after which guests will wait 10–15 minutes for their results.
WVU, DHHR team up to create new COVID-19 testing laboratory in Morgantown
To address the challenges of COVID-19 testing shortages and lagging turnaround times, West Virginia University and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources have teamed up to create a new testing laboratory at the Health Sciences Center thanks to funding made possible by Gov. Jim Justice.
I cannot thank Gov. Justice enough for his vision and leadership on this vital component in our continued battle against the coronavirus. By directing CARES ACT funding to make this lab a reality, we will be able to facilitate better health outcomes for thousands of West Virginians.
