Our Nashville affiliate WSMV-TV reported the cityâsâ Clinical Research Associates has been running a Pfizer vaccine trial since August, and they were given the approval to un-blind their patients.
Dr. William Polk, a surgeon, was the first patient identified as meeting the criteria to get the vaccine and is the first known person to receive the vaccine in Tennessee, as hospitals still wait for their shipments.

Hospitals in Tennessee were delivered their first shipments of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine early Thursday morning and health care workers are lining up to receive their first doses. The first known COVID-19 vaccination in Tennessee came from an unexpected source.
Dr. William Polk, 62, a Nashville surgeon, received the first dose of vaccine Wednesday afternoon at Clinical Research Associates, a Nashville business that for months has collected data as part of the Pfizer clinical trial. It is the first known coronavirus vaccination publicly reported in Tennessee since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Pfizer vaccine Friday.
“Basically, I think it’s a fantastic first step,” Polk said Wednesday, dressed in scrubs, moments after he received the injection. “I think that right now we lead the nation, or are second in the nation in new coronavirus cases, and until the vaccine is widespread, we have to keep our guard up.”

On Wednesday night, Dr. William Polk, a Nashville surgeon, received the first dose of the vaccine. He will be among the first to receive the vaccine in Tennessee since it was given emergency authorization by the FDA last week.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be administered for the first time in Tennessee on Wednesday afternoon.
Clinical Research Associates has been running vaccine trials since August.
Clinical Research Associates will hold an unblinding event on Wednesday afternoon.
Clinical Research Associates told NBC affiliate WSMV that they went through all 315 patients to see who meets the criteria to receive a vaccine.
