GHA to bar new director from entering PIMS National January 27, 2021 Islamabad: The Grand Health Alliance (GHA) Tuesday announced its intention to prevent the newly appointed director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) from entering the hospital premises for three months. The announcement was made on the 58th day of the ongoing protest of PIMS employees against the Medical Teaching Institutes (MTI) Ordinance. The protesters chanted slogans against MTI and the Board of Governors, and raised serious objections against both the former executive director of PIMS as well Dean MTI Dr. Rizwan Taj; the latter initially supported the PIMS employees’ protest against MTI and pledged not to join MTI, but later joined it.

Financial crunch again: UoP unable to pay salaries this month

Peshawar January 22, 2021 PESHAWAR: Owing to negligence on the part of the government or financial mismanagement by the administration, the University of Peshawar has once again expressed its inability to pay salaries to its employees for the current month. The development has created serious concern among the teaching and non-teaching staff, forcing the Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) to convene an emergency meeting to work out the future course of action. Through a notification issued by the University’s registrar, the employees were informed that the institution was unable to pay full salaries to them due to financial constraints. “It is notified for information of all concerned that due to financial constraints, the university is not able to disburse full salaries to its employees for the month of January 2021. Only basic pay plus personal pay will be disbursed for the same month,” said the notification.

PIMS protesters demand Dr Faisal’s resignation Islamabad January 22, 2021 Islamabad:The executive committee of the Grand Health Alliance (GHA) unanimously passed a resolution Thursday, demanding the resignation of the PM’s Special Assistant on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan, calling upon Prime Minister Imran Khan to halt the ‘undue interference’ of Dr. Nausherwan Burki in matters related to withdrawal of the Medical Teaching Institutes (MTI) Ordinance. The employees of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) continued their protest on the 53rd day, with a resolve to continue the struggle till the lapse of the MTI legislation. The charged protesters pledged not to negotiate with the government any longer, to have the Ordinance reverted, and to protect the MD, MS, and MDS programme of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU).

Sh Rashid promises solution by Wednesday Islamabad January 19, 2021 Islamabad: Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid assured employees of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Monday that a definitive solution will have been found to their demand for withdrawal of the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Ordinance by Wednesday. A delegation of the Federal Grand Health Alliance (FGHA), led by its Chairman Dr. Asfandyar Khan, called on Sheikh Rashid in his office to discuss the government’s lackadaisical response to the seemingly endless crisis that has gripped PIMS, much to the consternation of hapless patients. The Minister assured FGHA that he would speak to both the Prime Minister and his Health Advisor Dr. Faisal Sultan, and later in the day, communicated Dr. Faisal’s message saying that the matter would be resolved by Wednesday.
