Karntaka Minister asks Vision Group to prepare report on health sector development ANI | Updated: Jan 01, 2021 21:59 IST
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], January 1 (ANI): Karnataka Health and Medical Education MinisterDr K Sudhakar on Friday directed the Vision Group on health and medical education to prepare a report on comprehensive development of the health sector.
The report is likely to be finalised in six months, Dr Sudhakar told reporters after the first meeting concluded here on Friday.
Sudhakar was quoted as saying in a press release that the state government is working towards comprehensive transformation in the health sector. Currently, National Health policy 2017 is in place and we are committed to providing quality health care for the people of Karnataka, he said.

Sudhakar was speaking to the media after Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa inaugurated new building of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Research centre at Shivajinagar on Tuesday. Establishing a medical college requires Rs 600-700 crores. If it is built-in PPP model, it reduces the burden on state exchequer and also helps to provide affordable medical education and treatment to needy. A Covid patient’s body was released to the patient’s family after Health and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar intervened at a private hospital in Bengaluru.
According to the minister’s office, the family of a 62-year-old patient hailing from Rajasthan had difficulty in getting his body after he died of Covid at Manipal Hospital, Jayanagar.
The family had alleged that even after 40 days of treatment, the patient was not cured of Covid, although the family was charged exorbitantly and was also informed that he was Covid negative.
However, the post-mortem report mentioned that the patient was Covid positive. “How can infection persist after 40 days of treatment?” the family sought to know. Even though the patient passed away on the morning of December 23, the family was not handed over the body till evening that day.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], December 25 (ANI): The Karnataka government on Thursday said that it is working to upgrade the 2,380 primary health care centres to ensure quality health care for every citizen in the state.
After making a presentation on proposed model PHCs to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Karnataka Health and Medical Education MinisterDr K Sudhakar said that the number of doctors would be increased from one to a minimum of three to four, including a lady doctor and an Ayush doctor. There are 2,380 PHCs in the state, one per 30,000 population. The project is aimed to construct new PHCs to fill the gap and upgrade the existing ones. The current bed capacity of PHCs will be increased from six to 12 to 20, said Dr K Sudhakar.
