Eleven enlisted National Guard Soldiers from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C. and Delaware competed in the 2021 regional Best Warrior Competition at Fort Indiantown Gap May 11-14. Pfc. Alexander Gravely, a combat medic with 1st Battalion, 201st Field Artillery Regiment, 77th Brigade Troop Command, West Virginia Army National Guard, won the best Soldier portion of the competition. DVIDS - News - 108th MCAS medics provide support at Lithuanian base

16 Two medics deployed with the 108th Medical Company Area Support, 213th Regional Support Group – both coincidentally named Bradley – are apart from their unit serving other Soldiers and Lithuanian counterparts at a base in Lithuania. Sgt. Bradley Taylor and Spc. Bradley Hoyt are currently at a Lithuanian Army base in Marijampole, Lithuania, providing medical support to the U.S and Lithuanian troops on the base. Taylor and Hoyt arrived at the base on April 8. They are primarily providing medical support to U.S troops from the 259th Movement Control Team from Fort Hood, Texas, and the 659th Support Maintenance Co. from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, who are at the base.

5 Since Bob Hope entertained troops fighting overseas in WWII, the USO has been a source of comfort and support for U.S. military service members far from home. For over 75 years, the USO’s work has ranged from organizing extravagant shows in combat zones with celebrity entertainers, to providing things as simple as a safe place to nap during a layover. The USO continued that tradition on April 25, 2021, when Soldiers at Forward Operating Site (FOS) Powidz, Poland, received care packages that were part of an especially large shipment. Soldiers of the Florida Guard’s 50th Regional Support Group (RSG) from Homestead, Florida, distributed the kits provided by the USO.

DVIDS - News - Michigan Army National Guard Soldiers compete in Best Warrior competition

21 The Michigan Army National Guard (MIARNG) recently held its Best Warrior Competition at Fort Custer Training Center. This competition, held March 28-31, is an annual event used to select MIARNG’s best Soldier of the Year (SOY) and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year (SNCOY). MIARNG Soldier of the Year is Spc. Tyler Dean with the 1431st Engineer Company, 177th Military Police Brigade and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year is Staff Sgt. Landon Tompkins, with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 182nd Field Artillery Regiment, 272nd Regional Support Group. Dean, who recently returned from a mobilization, had to beat out 12 other soldiers to be named Michigan Army National Guard’s top Soldier.
