Brigham Earns Another ‘A’ for Patient Safety in Spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade
BOSTON The Brigham has been awarded an ‘A’ in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, released today by The Leapfrog Group. The designation recognizes the Brigham’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.
Brigham and Women’s Hospital celebrates its seventh ‘A’ grade since the fall of 2017. The ‘A’ awarded Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital (BWFH) makes it one of just 27 hospitals nationwide to consistently earn that grade since the inception of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade in 2012. The Safety Grade assigns grades from A-F to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

Across all states, highlights of findings from the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade include:
Thirty-three percent of hospitals received an A, 24 percent received a B, 35 percent received a C, 7 percent received a D, and less than 1 percent received an F.
Five states with the highest percentages of A hospitals are Massachusetts, Idaho, Maine, Virginia, and North Carolina.
