HSE cyberattack: Thousands of procedures and appointments cancelled

Waterford, Ireland / WLR May 15, 2021 | 10:06 AM Thousands of medical procedures, appointments and scans scheduled for next week have been cancelled following a cyberattack on the health service. University Hospital Waterford  says the attack on the HSE’s IT systems  has resulted in considerable delays at their Emergency Department and impacted their ability to deliver normal outpatient services. Management at UHW and at Kilcreen Regional Hospital are advising that all outpatient appointments for Monday the 17th of May – including Radiology and Cardiology – are now cancelled. All surgical procedures and endoscopy services have also been cancelled. The Irish Times reports that the Health Service Executive (HSE) has said the disruption caused by the attack on its IT system will last well into next week, with it to be at least three days before the scale of the damage is clear.
