Nearly a dozen of Taylor County’s frontline healthcare workers received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday from Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH), a partner of Doctors’ Memorial Hospital (DMH).
TMH received its allotment of the Moderna vaccine in Tallahassee around noon on Wednesday, Dec. 23.

First doses of COVID vaccine distributed to parts of Florida
Florida has been allocated 179,400 doses from the first shipment of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, which received emergency federal approval last week.
The first doses were allocated to front-line healthcare workers at several large state hospitals and for distribution to at-risk populations in long-term care facilities.
Additionally, as part of a vaccination pilot program, some of the very first vaccine doses were sent to health departments for distribution to first responders and healthcare workers in Broward and Pinellas counties.
As additional shipments are made available, the state’s third priority will be elderly populations.
K9 Bak takes a bite out of crime
Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) K9 Bak “took a bite out of crime” on Monday when he apprehended a suspect hiding in a clump of palmetto bushes just a few feet from the deputies searching for him.
Dale Ray Evans, 23, sustained minor injuries to his leg and was treated at Doctors’ Memorial Hospital (DMH) before being booked at the Taylor County Jail on felony warrant charges of false imprisonment, battery and petit theft, as well as loitering and resisting an officer.

Century takes over EMS Jan. 2
Century Ambulance, which was selected by the Taylor County Commission to take over ambulance services from Doctors’ Memorial Hospital (DMH), plans to begin providing services here as soon as Jan. 2, 2021.
According to County Administrator LaWanda Pemberton, who gave an update to the commission at its Monday, Dec. 7, meeting, she and County Attorney Conrad Bishop have been working with Century to negotiate a contract to bring to the board for approval.
