Doctors Medical Center in Modesto and Doctors Hospital of Manteca have been recognized by Blue Shield of California with a Blue Distinction Centers for Bariatric Surgery designation.
Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated healthcare facilities that show a commitment to delivering high quality patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community and leading accreditation and quality organizations.
The Blue Distinction Centers for Bariatric Surgery program provides a full range of bariatric surgery care, including surgical care, post-operative care, outpatient follow-up care, and patient education.

The first round of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine continues to roll out in San Joaquin County.
On Wednesday, the vaccine was administered to eligible members of the staff at Doctors Hospital of Manteca in accordance with Food & Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, state and local guidelines.
On Thursday, vaccines were administered to staff at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp and Kaiser Permanente in Manteca.
Sandra Heinze was Kaiser Permanente s first employee to receive the vaccine in the Central Valley, according to a company spokesperson. As staff watched, Heinze, a registered ICU nurse at Kaiser Permanente in Manteca, said it didn t hurt a bit and that she didn t hesitate to take the shot.
They’re divvying up the next round of about 8 million doses expected early next year, and settled on three broad sectors in no particular order:
• 1.4 million education and child care providers, a category that includes preschools, K-12, and higher education including trade schools.
• 1.1 million emergency services providers, including not only police and firefighters but those who provide child and youth services, shelters, social services for the elderly and those with disabilities, the criminal justice system, and businesses that provide goods used by the safety workers.
• 3.4 million food and agriculture workers, from farm to table including those working in food and drinking establishments as well as farmworkers and grocers, bakers and butchers. Plant nurseries, florists and sawmills all fall into that category, as do community food services and pharmacies.
