400 doses of vaccine expected

As the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine began arriving in five communities around Wyoming last week, health officials in Johnson County were refining the details of the county’s vaccine plan.  And now, vaccine doses are on the horizon for the county. On Dec. 20, the Wyoming Department of Health indicated that Johnson County is slated to recive 400 doses of the Moderna vaccine by the end of the year. The Food and Drug Administration cleared the Moderna vaccine for emergency use on Friday. On Tuesday, Johnson County public health response coordinator Robin King said vaccinations are set to begin next week.  These doses will likely be split between the county public health office and the hospital, with 75% of the doses going to the hospital and 25% to public health, said Trisha Thompson, county public health nurse manager.

Long-term care residents, who’ve accounted for most of the state’s COVID deaths, are in the “1A” group of people being prioritized for the vaccine. Frontline health workers in the Mankato area, also in the 1A group, began receiving Pfizer vaccines Monday. Residents in long-term care or assisted living facilities would be set to next receive vaccines from another manufacturer, Moderna.

DHHS updates Nebraska on COVID-19 vaccine distribution The first shipment of vaccines is targeted to hospital and health care workers, including EMTs, paramedics, and high-risk individuals.  December 22, 2020 8:51 am LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) This morning, nearly nine-thousand Nebraskans have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, reports the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The first shipment of vaccines is targeted to hospital and health care workers, including EMTs, paramedics, and high-risk individuals. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses to be given over the span of a few weeks. Moderna’s vaccine, which was authorized for emergency use this week, will be shipped to 112 Nebraska hospitals in the coming week, totaling 32,400 doses.
