Pakistan has approved the emergency use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. As the coronavirus tally surged to 519,291 in Pakistan, the government hopes to make the drug available by the first quarter of the year.
According to a report in the Geo TV, Dr Faisal Sultan who is Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Health confirmed on Saturday that the Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP) has granted approval for emergency use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine across the country.
Provinces free to import coronavirus vaccine, says NCOC chief Asad Umar

National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar has asserted that provinces and private entities are allowed to import anti-coronavirus vaccines approved by the Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP). From day 1, the NCOC has adopted the policy that the federal government shall not have the monopoly to import anti-coronavirus vaccines, the federal minister told Shahzad Iqbal in Geo News Naya Pakistan show on Saturday. Provinces and private entities including hospitals have been allowed to import the vaccines that are approved by DRAP.
Umar was responding to Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho seeking the federal government s permission to directly negotiate with foreign governments and private companies for vaccine procurement.
