CRITICAL BLOOD SHORTAGE MEDIC Regional Blood Center is reminding people in the area that there is a critical shortage in blood supplies right now in East Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky. MEDIC says that O Positive blood has been at critical levels for weeks now. As well as O Positive, donors are needed for A Positive, A Negative and Platelets are at currently critical low levels. MEDIC says that the blood on shelves now is what will be used in the case of a trauma event and it takes at least 3 days for donated blood to be processed and ready for distribution. MEDIC prefers you make an appointment to give blood as they have limited availability for walk-ins. MEDIC has critical need for blood donations

MEDIC Regional Blood Center is in critical need of blood types O-positive, O-negative, A-positive and A-negative, the organization said in a news release Wednesday.Â Donations can be made at all MEDIC Blood Centers, including locations in Knoxville, Athens and Crossville, and at mobile units. For a full list of locations including mobile blood drives, visit medicblood.org. MEDIC requires all donors to wear masks or face coverings. Appointments are not required for whole blood donations, but can be made online.Â All donors will receive a special edition MEDIC gift, a $10 e-gift card (delivered via email), a $5 Salsarita s coupon and a Texas Roadhouse appetizer coupon, the release states.Â
