Reflections on COVID-19 vaccine rollout  - Zimbabwe Situation

Reflections on COVID-19 vaccine rollout  BY YASSINI NHARA Last month President Emmerson Mnangagwa held a state of the nation address where he indicated that a COVID-19 vaccine was expected into the country “quite soon”. He indicated that further announcements regarding the process would be made “in the coming days”. On February 4, 2021, the President addressed the nation again and confirmed that the government was in the process of developing and finalising a State-funded national vaccination strategy and a national vaccine deployment framework, respectively. Subsequently, a national rollout, deployment and vaccination plan (DVP) was presented before Parliament on February 16 2021. As the COVID-19 global pandemic continues to spread, the bringing to market of several vaccinations against the virus has been met with mixed feelings across the world.

Concerns Zim being arm-twisted into Covid-19 vaccine deals

Concerns Zim being arm-twisted into Covid-19 vaccine deals The Standard A reportedly broke Zimbabwe could have been lured into shady Covid-19 vaccination deals with manufacturers who are offering free doses as bait, investigations have established. On February 18, the government started rolling out vaccination programme to fight the viral disease, after taking a delivery of a donation of 200 000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China. The doses will benefit 100 000 people since each beneficiary must take two interspersed jabs. © ASSOCIATED PRESS Health workers are sanitized at local hospital where China s Sinopharm vaccine is being administered at a local hospital in Harare, Thursday, Feb, 18, 202. Biti Queries Acquisition Of Unapproved Chinese Vaccine

By Anna Chibamu HARARE East MP and MDC Alliance vice president Tendai Biti has raised concerns about the safety and effectiveness of the Sinopharm vaccine donated to the country by the Chinese government on Monday. Biti speaking on a point of privilege as Parliament resumed business Tuesday queried several issues regarding the vaccine highlighting that it was yet to be approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The former Finance minister told Parliament Speaker Jacob Mudenda that government was also yet to present a comprehensive roll-out plan for the vaccination process. “As it is, the national roll-out plan is absent. There is no evidence that the Chinese vaccine has been approved by WHO. Yes, we believe the best solution to control the disease is through vaccination. The Health minister should issue a ministerial statement to the National Assembly.
