Families as Lifesavers is being funded through the Drugs Deaths Taskforce A NEW project which helps the families of people at risk of dying through drugs will start work in early January. Families as Lifesavers, which is being funded through the Drugs Deaths Taskforce, helps family members to increase their understanding of drug addiction while building coping strategies and helping them to continue to support their relative. The project, run by Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs, is one of a number of schemes funded through the taskforce. Minister for Drugs Policy Angela Constance said: “Finding out that a loved one is using drugs, and might even be at risk of losing their lives to their addiction, is one of the toughest things any family can face. People want to know the best way to respond, and what they might be able to do to help. They also want to feel they are not alone.

Glenmark Pharma rises on receiving ANDA final approval for tadalafil tablets

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals gained 0.86% to Rs 503.05 after the drug maker said it received US drug regulator s final approval for tadalafil tablets.Tadalafil tablets are generic version of Cialis tablets of Eli Lilly and Company. According to IQVIA, sales data for the 12 month period ending November 2020, the Cialis tablets achieved annual sales of approximately $125.5 million. Glenmark also received tentative approval from United States Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) for Gabapentin Enacarbil extended-release tablets. The product is generic version of Horizant extended-release tablets of Arbor Pharmaceuticals, LLC. The Horizant market achieved annual sales of approximately $99.5 million. Further, the drug maker received tentative approval for Apremilast tablets, a generic version of Otezla tablets of Amgen Inc. Otezla tablets achieved annual sales of approximately $2.7 billion.

SCOTLAND’S drug crisis took a further turn for the worse last week with news of a record-high number of deaths for the sixth consecutive year, reinforcing our position as the “sick man of Europe”. The latest figures, for 2019, revealed a 6% rise to 1264, the worst rate in Europe of drug deaths per capita and three and a half times higher than England and Wales. Scotland had 295 drug deaths per million of the population between 15 and 64 with the next highest Sweden at 81. That prompted First Minister ­Nicola Sturgeon to apologise “to ­every family who has suffered grief’” and to say that she would be driving ­forward the response after the next ­Scottish Drug Deaths Taskforce (SDDT) meeting on January 12.

Peter Krykant’s meeting with Nicola Sturgeon is expected to take place on January 7, just days before the First Minister chairs a meeting of the Scottish Drug Deaths Taskforce. Sturgeon has previously said that meeting will look at what immediate steps could be taken to combat the record-high drug deaths recorded in this year’s figures. As such, a meeting with Krykant may signal governmental intent to set up official safe consumption spaces for drug users in Scotland.
